Fanshawe College

Fanshawe College of Applied Arts and Technology is one of the largest colleges in Ontario, Canada. Its campuses are located in London, Simcoe, St. Thomas and Woodstock, with additional locations in Southwestern Ontario. Offering more than 200 degree, diploma, certificate, graduate certificate and apprenticeship programs, Fanshawe has approximately 43,000 full-time, part-time and online students each year. The College attracts students from approximately 65 countries and has more than 167,000 alumni living and working around the world.

Research at Fanshawe - The Centre for Research and Innovation (CRI) is Fanshawe College’s Research Office and Industry Innovation Centre (IIC). The Centre works with industry and community partners, and with Fanshawe researchers, to develop innovative research projects and programs, and serves as the College’s liaison to external funders.

The London campus was founded in 1962 as the Ontario Vocational Centre (OVC). The first classes were held September 28, 1964, and initially there were 300 students enrolled. In 1967 it became Fanshawe College, one of a province-wide system of colleges of applied arts and technology. Regional campuses were subsequently established in Woodstock, St. Thomas, and Simcoe.[citation needed] The origin of the word Fanshawe is old English and is a combination of two words: fane (meaning temple or building) and shaw or shawe (meaning woods). Hence “temple in the woods." The College's current logo was adopted in 2014.

Fanshawe's campus in London, Ontario, Canada covers 100 acres (40 ha) and has twenty-three buildings, including nearly 1200 apartment-style residence rooms and close to 400 townhouse rooms at its London campus. The London Campus also includes the Centre for Applied Transportation Technology (CATT), the Centre for Digital and Performance Arts (CDPA) and the Fanshawe Aviation Centre. The London campus has been described as "one of the largest in Ontario" and as a "city within a city".

Fanshawe's Simcoe/Norfolk Regional Campus, located in Simcoe, Ontario, offers certificate and diploma programs, academic upgrading, pre-apprenticeships, continuing education, career and employment services and much more. The Campus has the perfect combination of small town charm, friendliness and excellent educational opportunities. The St. Thomas/Elgin Regional Campus, located in the south-east end of St. Thomas, Ontario, is home to approximately 350 full-time students and 2,000 part-time students. The Campus offers certificate and diploma programs, academic upgrading, apprenticeships, continuing education, corporate training, and career and employment services in a high-tech learning environment with small class sizes.

Located in Woodstock, Ontario, Fanshawe's Woodstock/Oxford Regional Campuses is situated on 50 acres of beautifully landscaped property that is conveniently located at the forks of Highways 401 and 403. The Campus is part of the Woodstock District Community Complex,which also houses Goff Community Hall, a gymnastics centre, two arenas, a figure skating club and food services. The Campus offers certificate and diploma programs, continuing education, academic upgrading and apprenticeship opportunities. The Campus prides itself on providing training that meets the local employment needs of the community.

The Fanshawe Student Union (FSU) is a student representative body, designed to meet the various needs and expectations of students attending Fanshawe College. The FSU is a proud member of the College Student Alliance (CSA). The CSA is a member-driven advocacy and student leadership organization which proudly serves Ontario’s college and college-university students.

The FSU has had a student newspaper since its inception, first known as Fanfare, changing to The Dam in 1971. It has been known as The Interrobang since approximately 1979 and is Fanshawe’s only student newspaper. It is published weekly from September to April and distributed on-campus free of charge throughout Fanshawe College. The Interrobang, is a member of Canadian University Press (CUP).

Fanshawe College joined the Ontario College Athletic Association (OCAA) in 1967 as one of the six founding members. The Falcons currently compete in 14 varsity sports, with 19 teams including: men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s volleyball, men’s and women’s indoor and outdoor soccer, men’s and women’s golf, men’s and women’s badminton, men’s and women’s cross-country, men’s baseball, women’s softball and men’s and women’s and mixed curling.

Many of Fanshawe’s varsity programs excel not only in the OCAA but also the Canadian Colleges Athletic Association (CCAA). As of 2015, the Falcons have a total of 14 national championships, 85 provincial championships and a total of 263 medals.

University of Manitoba

The University of Manitoba is a public university in the province of Manitoba, Canada. Located in Winnipeg, it is a research-intensive post-secondary educational institution.Founded in 1877, it was Western Canada’s first university.

The downtown Bannatyne campus of the university comprises a complex of ten buildings located west of the Health Sciences Centre between McDermot Ave and William Ave in Central Winnipeg. This complex houses the medical and dental instructional units of the university. The Faculty of Dentistry, the Faculty of Medicine, the School of Medical Rehabilitation, and the School of Dental Hygiene are the major health sciences units located on this campus. The Faculty of Pharmacy officially joined the Bannatyne campus with the opening of the 95,000 sq ft (8,800 m2) Apotex Centre on October 16, 2008. The Brodie Center is known as the "flagship" which connects all three faculties as well as the Neil John MacLean Health Sciences Library and the Joe Doupe Fitness Centre. It is located on 727 McDermot Avenue.

The main Fort Garry campus comprises over 60 teaching and research buildings of the University and sits on 274 hectares (680 acres) of land.In addition, Smartpark is the location of seven buildings leased to research and development organizations involving university-industry partnerships. The address is 66 Chancellors Circle.

The University of Manitoba provides services to urban Aboriginal people. The University of Manitoba Native Studies summer course brings first-year Aboriginal students to campus before the start of the school year for some campus orientation. Aboriginal Elders are present on campus at University of Manitoba to provide social supports. Tutoring services are available within the University of Manitoba’s Medicine, Engineering and Social Work ACCESS Programs. The university reaches into Aboriginal communities to talk to potential students at a much younger age through Curry Biz Camp, which fosters entrepreneurship among young First Nations and Métis students.

Thirty-three of the buildings on the Fort Garry campus of the University of Manitoba are used for teaching. Four of these are colleges: St. John's College, St. Paul's College, St. Andrew's College, and University College. The remaining buildings contain laboratories, administrative and service offices, residences, or are the property of research agencies.

The university has an enrolment of approximately 27,000 students - 24,000 undergraduate and 3,000 graduate. The university offers more than 90 degrees, more than 60 at the undergraduate level. Most academic units offer graduate studies programs leading to master’s or doctoral degrees.

In 2007-08, the university acquired more than $150 million in research income. The university holds 48 Canada Research Chairs and is either home to or a partner in 37 research centres, institutes and shared facilities. These centres foster collaborative research and scholarship.

The University of Manitoba is the network leader of ISIS Canada (Intelligent Sensing for Innovative Structures), headquartered in the Faculty of Engineering. ISIS Canada is a National Network of Centres of Excellence (NCE) developing better ways to build, repair and monitor civil structures. The university is a member of 13 other NCEs.

In 2013, the University of Manitoba sponsored an urban planning design competition to plan an extension to the Fort Garry Campus. The goal is to improve the general campus experience and guide future growth by establishing an urban framework for housing, university buildings and the associated public transportation in the area. The winning design submission was from Janet Rosenberg & Studio Inc. (Toronto) and Cibinel Architects Ltd. (Winnipeg) with Landmark Planning & Design Inc. (Winnipeg) and ARUP Canada Inc. (Toronto).

The university has a total enrolment of approximately 26,000 students in 22 faculties. Most academic units offer graduate studies programs leading to master’s or doctoral degrees. In 2014, the University of Manitoba overtook the University of Sherbrooke to be rated second last overall in the Macleans Rankings of Canadian Medical Doctoral Schools.The Anthropology Laboratory Museum at UofM collects, inventories and displays artifacts including cartographic materials, prints, drawings, and textual records from the Manitoba Region. The Human History collection includes archaeological and ceremonial objects, and weapons. The Natural Sciences artifacts include biological, zooarchaeological, aquatic, Earth Science, Geological and Paleontological Collections.

The students at the university are members of the University of Manitoba Students' Union (UMSU). UMSU represents students at the Board of Governors and Senate, as well as providing programs and support to students.

ABM College of Health and Technology

ABM College is a Canadian vocational college with main campuses in both Calgary,Alberta and Toronto, Ontario.
